Chilren's Hooded Sweatshirts
Hundreds of thousands of children's hooded sweatshirts have been recalled due to a violation of safety standards that poses a risk of strangulation to children. Dozens of companies, such as Evy and Walker, Macy's, Burlington Coat Factory, Winterbee, Hill Sportswear, Jason Evans Associates, and La Jolla Sport, among others, have recalled hooded sweatshirts, jackets, and coats because of a defective design that features a drawstring sewn at the base of the hood or waist of the garment in violation of CPSC guidelines. Children can become entangled in the drawstring at the base of the neck or waist, posing a strangulation hazard. At least one child has died as a result of these defectively designed products.
